AFTERMATH: The Challenges of Salvage, Riverdance and HMS Nottingham will be held on Thursday 11 March in the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, (Auditorium/Drama Theatre) from 17.00 - 19.30.

In his first year as SOSREP, Hugh dealt with 171 incidents, issuing 7 Directions and creating 8 Temporary Exclusion Zones. Hugh has over thirty years experience in the maritime industry, beginning his career as a deck officer with Mobil Shipping Company and then moving up the ranks within HM Coastguard prior to reaching the position of District Controller at Forth Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre. In 2003 he became the MCA Counter Pollution and Salvage Officer for Scotland and Northern Ireland. A year later, Hugh was appointed as the Deputy to the SOSREP based with the then Department for Trade and Industry in Aberdeen.

With an HND in Nautical Science and a Diploma in Marine Surveying, Adrian joined Brookes Bell in January 2007 directly from sea, having previously served as Master with P&O Ferries (Irish Sea) Ltd., sailing on both the conventional Ro-Pax / Ro-Ro craft and the HSC Express and held pilotage exemption for relevant ports. During his 18 years at sea, Adrian served on refrigerated / general cargo vessels, small passenger vessels and ferries in all ranks up to and including Master. Adrian completed a Diploma in Marine Surveying during 2006 and is a member of the Nautical Institute and serves on their National Council.

Chief Salvage and Mooring Officer, Ministry of Defence.
Joined the RFA in 1974, qualifying as a Master Mariner in 1982 before transferring to the MoD as a Salvage, Mooring & Boom Defence Officer in 85. Promoted to Chief Salvage & Mooring Officer in July 2000. Since 85 he has been constantly involved in salvage operations and developing operational capability. Notable operations include, HMS BRAZEN, MV PESCADO, HMS ENDURANCE and MV DERBYSHIRE and the subject of today’s presentation, the recovery of HMS NOTTINGHAM. He is currently assisting the AAIB in its response to the Air France A300M loss last year. He works closely with the Receiver of Wreck and SOSREP and holds the Falklands medal, Gulf war medal and was awarded the OBE in 1998 for his services in the field of Marine salvage.
